As a Los Angeles resident, you have several very nice parks to choose from when you’re preparing for an outing with your senior loved one. If your parent is still pretty ambulatory, you can take advantage of the wonderful hiking trails available at Griffith Park, and if you would just enjoy the sights more than any activities, you might want to try Grand Park, where you can both admire the impressive Memorial Fountain. There are all kinds of outdoor activities available in Kenneth Hahn State Recreational Area, so if your perky parent wants some exercise, you can both have a great time at that venue.
Regardless of which park you are closest to, or which one you happen to choose for an outing with your loved one, it will probably be fairly warm on that day, so you should take some precautions that will make the visit more comfortable for your parent. Sunscreen is advisable so that his/her skin is protected from the ultraviolet rays of the sun, and so there won’t be any unpleasant sunburn to deal with the next day. A wide-brimmed hat will be useful for keeping out the sun as well, and several bottles of fresh water will keep both of you from becoming dehydrated if it should be a particularly warm day.
You might also want to pack a little lunch for you both, so you can enjoy a sandwich or something just as tasty while you’re making your way through the park and enjoying the surroundings. Most parks in the area are equipped with benches and some even have picnic tables, so when you stop to take a rest, you can enjoy your own little outdoor picnic, in a beautiful and relaxing setting. Thus relaxed and refreshed, you can proceed to appreciate the lovely foliage, the park birds and small animals, and the gorgeous, sun-drenched environment.
